Missed Opportunity for Mega Man Fans
Mighty No. 9 for the Wii U tries to bring back the nostalgia of classic Mega Man games, but unfortunately it falls short. For me, it was a disappointment, especially since the game was developed by Comcept with Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune as director. With such a well-known name and a successful Kickstarter campaign, my expectations were high, but the final game was a letdown.

The gameplay is reminiscent of the old Mega Man titles, featuring side-scrolling action and challenging platform segments. You control Beck, a robot who can absorb enemies to gain new abilities. While this concept sounds interesting, I found the controls to be quite clumsy. In games like this, precise controls are crucial, and unfortunately, that was lacking here. It made the game frustrating to play and I missed the smooth experience I expect from an action-platformer.

Graphically, Mighty No. 9 is subpar for Wii U standards. The visual style is basic and lacks the charm I expected from a spiritual successor to Mega Man. The Wii U version also suffers from technical issues such as framerate drops and long loading times, which significantly diminished the enjoyment of the game. The sound and music are decent, but lack the catchy melodies that Mega Man fans are used to. All in all, Mighty No. 9 feels like a missed opportunity for me; the game had potential but does not meet the expectations of genre fans.

Mighty No. 9 is disappointing
Apparently, this game was supposed to be the Mega Man of this era. The developers have kept the platforming and shooting aspects. There is a 'dash' system, which allows Veck (the robot representing Mega Man) to propel himself forward with speed. This enables you to absorb powers from your opponents and easily 'fly' over gaps in the level. You would think that Mighty No. 9 would be very easy because of this, but it is actually the opposite.

The levels in this game are very challenging. But not in the same way as in the Donkey Kong Country games. In those games, you needed to be good at platforming, and the game usually gave you enough time to react to obstacles. Here, you also need to be precise, but in the later stages, there are too many things that can kill you all at once. Enemies positioned right at the edge of a platform, making it impossible to land on them. This makes the game a bit too frustrating, which led me to lose motivation to continue playing.

You can try to rush through it using your dash ability, but then you sometimes collide with obstacles that you only see at the last moment. Fighting the 8 mighty numbers (the bosses in this game) on the other hand is too easy and just boring. You can use the weapons of the mighty numbers when fighting the other bosses, but they don't add much to the game.
